Book Introduction
This is not the first book on SharePoint 2007 and definitely not the last one. Several books have been written about this excellent product but each was unique in its own way and provided useful insight into different product areas. This book does not focus on one particular topic, or let me put it this way, it focuses on different topics that are of interest to the real world users. It has small tips. It sheds light on some very common error messages that users get during the development. The book discusses ways to resolve these errors. Book also discusses new Office products that can be used with SharePoint 2007. You can consider it a series of articles where each article or section focuses on one particular area of the product and teaches you something new about SharePoint. SharePoint is huge product. There are different books that have been written to cover different areas of this product. Some areas that users are particularly interested in are related to web services, workflows, search, web parts and business intelligence. This book will teach you development and deployment of web services. It also shows you how custom web parts work in SharePoint and discusses their source code. There is one chapter that tells you how SharePoint search works and you can customize it. This book does not cover workflows and business intelligence. Each section in each of the chapters gives users step-by-step guide on how to develop or deploy something in SharePoint. This book will cater to the needs of average SharePoint users.
